Terms of Service

Last updated November 3, 2026Version 2026-10-beta

These Terms are the rules for using Shiftlore, whether you are reading reviews or sharing your own. By using Shiftlore you agree to them. The Community Guidelines are part of these Terms, and the Privacy Policy explains how your information is handled.

Shiftlore is in private beta. This page describes how Shiftlore works today. It may be updated before Shiftlore launches publicly.

1. What Shiftlore is

Shiftlore is a website where people share what a specific job at a specific location was really like: the company, the job title, the city, ratings, pay and written answers. Reviews are written by people who say they worked that job. Shiftlore hosts these reviews. It does not write them.

In these Terms, “Shiftlore”, “we” and “us” mean the operator of the Shiftlore website, and “you” means anyone who uses it.

2. Who can use Shiftlore

  • Anyone can read Shiftlore. You don’t need an account.
  • To write, edit, delete or report a review, you need to sign in. Sign-in has no password: we email you a one-time link. The sign-in page may also offer Google.
  • You must be 18 or older to submit a review. The review form asks you to confirm this. Shiftlore does not check ID and does not collect your date of birth.

3. Your account

  • Your account is for you. Don’t share sign-in links, use someone else’s account, or create extra accounts to get around limits or moderation.
  • Keep your email secure. Anyone who can open your email can sign in to Shiftlore as you.
  • Shiftlore limits how many reviews one account can submit or edit each day.

4. Reviews are personal experiences

  • Every review, rating and pay report on Shiftlore comes from a user. It reflects that person’s own experience and opinion, not Shiftlore’s, and Shiftlore does not endorse it.
  • The same job can be very different depending on the location, the manager, the shift and when someone worked there.
  • A moderator reads every review before it is published, but moderators cannot check whether every statement is true. Shiftlore does not guarantee that any review, rating or pay figure is accurate, complete or current.
  • Averages, percentages and pay figures are calculated only from the published reviews for that job. They change as reviews are added, edited or removed.

5. What you can and can’t post

When you submit a review, you confirm that:

  • it describes your own, firsthand experience of a job you personally worked; and
  • you are not impersonating anyone or misrepresenting your connection to the employer.

Don’t submit anything that:

  • you know is false or misleading;
  • is unlawful, threatening, harassing, defamatory, hateful or abusive;
  • reveals trade secrets, confidential company information or customer information;
  • shares private personal information about anyone, including you, such as home addresses, phone numbers, email addresses or social media handles;
  • names or identifies managers, coworkers, customers or other individuals, including by describing someone so that people could work out who they are; or
  • is spam, advertising, a duplicate, part of a coordinated effort to push a rating up or down, or written in exchange for payment or another reward.

You are responsible for what you submit. The Community Guidelines explain these rules with examples.

6. Moderation

  • Every new or edited review is read by a moderator before it appears on Shiftlore. Editing a published review takes it off the site until a moderator approves the change.
  • Shiftlore may publish, reject, flag (hide while we take another look) or remove any review at any time, including after it has been published. We are not required to publish any submission.
  • Shiftlore may approve, rename, merge or decline the companies, job titles and locations that users add.
  • Anyone who is signed in can report a review. Reports go to Shiftlore’s moderators. We don’t promise a particular outcome or response time.
  • Moderators are people and can miss things. If a review breaks the rules, please report it.
  • Shiftlore does not currently send messages explaining moderation decisions. You can see the status of each of your reviews in My Reviews.

7. Employers

  • Shiftlore does not accept payment, or anything else of value, to remove, hide or change legitimate reviews, including negative ones.
  • If you believe a review breaks these Terms or the Community Guidelines, report it from the review’s page. It will be judged by the same rules as every other review.
  • Don’t review a business you own, post reviews on an employer’s behalf, or offer anyone a reward for a review.

8. Your content and the license you give Shiftlore

  • You keep ownership of what you write.
  • When you submit a review, you give Shiftlore a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, copy, moderate, format, display and distribute it as part of Shiftlore. That covers things like showing it as Anonymous Employee, showing part of it (for example, your “What I wish I knew” answer on a job page), fitting it to different screens, and including your ratings and pay in job-level figures.
  • You can delete a review at any time from My Reviews. It is then removed from Shiftlore’s pages and from job-level figures, and this license ends, except for copies Shiftlore doesn’t control (such as a screenshot or a search engine’s saved copy) and any backups our database provider keeps.
  • You confirm that you have the right to submit what you post, and that Shiftlore publishing it as described here won’t break the law or anyone else’s rights.

9. Not professional advice

Reviews, ratings and pay figures are general information shared by other people. They are not employment, career, financial or legal advice. Before you accept a job, confirm the pay, schedule, benefits and anything else that matters to you with the employer.

10. Using the site fairly

Don’t:

  • copy Shiftlore in bulk, scrape it, or use automated tools to submit or report content;
  • try to find out who wrote a review, or encourage others to;
  • interfere with the site, test its security without permission, or get around its access controls or limits; or
  • use Shiftlore to break the law.

Shiftlore’s name, design and software belong to its operator. These Terms let you use the site; they don’t give you any other rights to them.

11. Private beta, disclaimers and limits

  • Shiftlore is in an early private beta. Features may change, pause or be removed, and the site may sometimes be unavailable or have errors.
  • Shiftlore is provided “as is” and “as available”. As far as the law allows, Shiftlore makes no promises about the site or its content, including that it is accurate, complete, uninterrupted, error-free or suitable for a particular purpose.
  • Shiftlore is not responsible for content posted by users, or for decisions you make based on it.
  • As far as the law allows, Shiftlore is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost earnings or opportunities, that come from using Shiftlore.
  • Some places don’t allow these limits, so some may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have that the law says cannot be limited.

12. Ending your use of Shiftlore

  • You can stop using Shiftlore at any time, and delete any of your reviews at any time from My Reviews.
  • There is no button to delete your account yourself yet. To ask us to delete it, email support@shiftlore.app from the email address you use to sign in. The Privacy Policy explains what deleting an account removes.
  • Shiftlore may suspend or end your access, and remove your content, if you break these Terms or the Community Guidelines, or to protect Shiftlore, its users or anyone else.

13. Changes to these Terms

  • We may update these Terms. The date and version at the top of this page change when we do.
  • Each review records the version of these Terms in force when it was submitted or last edited.
  • If you keep using Shiftlore after a change, the updated Terms apply to that use.

14. Reporting a problem

If a review breaks these Terms or the Community Guidelines, open the review and choose “Report this review”.

15. Contact

For questions about these Terms, legal concerns about Shiftlore or a review, and requests about your account, email support@shiftlore.app.

To report a review that breaks the rules, use “Report this review” on the review’s page. For privacy questions and requests, see Contact us in the Privacy Policy.
