Privacy Policy

Last updated November 3, 2026Version 2026-10-beta

This policy explains what Shiftlore collects when you read reviews, sign in and share your experience, what appears publicly, and who can see the rest. It describes how Shiftlore works today.

Shiftlore is in private beta. This page describes how Shiftlore works today. It may be updated before Shiftlore launches publicly.

1. The short version

  • We use your email address to sign you in.
  • Your name and email are never shown on reviews. Published reviews appear as Anonymous Employee.
  • The company, job title, location, ratings and written answers in your review are published once a moderator approves it.
  • Your pay is never attached to your public review. Once at least 3 people report pay for that job, your amount may contribute to job-level pay figures such as a typical amount or range.
  • Moderators can read your whole review, including your pay. The moderation tool does not show who wrote it.
  • We use cookies to keep you signed in. We don’t use advertising or analytics cookies.
  • We don’t sell your personal information.
  • You can delete any of your reviews at any time. There is no button to delete your account yourself yet.

2. What we collect

When you sign in

  • Your email address, to send you sign-in links and to identify your account.
  • If you choose Continue with Google, Google shares your basic profile (such as your name, email address and profile picture) with our sign-in provider, Supabase Auth, which stores it with your account. Shiftlore does not display it or use it for anything other than signing you in.
  • Sign-in records kept by Supabase Auth, such as when your account was created, when you last signed in, and session details that can include your IP address and browser type.
  • Whether your account is a regular account or a moderator (admin) account.

When you write a review

  • The company, job title, city, state and, if you add it, the location name.
  • Whether you work there now or used to, and how long you worked there.
  • Your ratings, stress level, whether you would recommend the job and work there again, and your written answers.
  • Pay, only if you choose to share it: how you were paid, your base pay and pay period, tips, commission, and how satisfied you were with your pay.
  • Your three confirmations (that it is your own experience, that you are 18 or older, and that Shiftlore may publish it anonymously), the version of the Terms in force, and when the review was created, last updated and published.
  • Its moderation history: each status change, and any notes moderators write.

Each review is stored linked to your account. That is how My Reviews can show you your own reviews and let you edit or delete them.

Other things you send us

  • Companies, job titles and locations you add because they aren’t listed yet. Once approved, they become part of Shiftlore’s public directory. We keep a record of which account added them.
  • Reports you make about a review: the reason you chose and any details you write. A report is linked to your account so one account can’t report the same review twice.
  • The time of each review you submit or edit, used to enforce a daily limit. Entries older than two days are deleted the next time you submit or edit.

When you browse

  • You can read Shiftlore without an account. Shiftlore does not use analytics or advertising trackers.
  • Searches you type are sent to our database to find matches. We don’t save a search history, but search words are part of the page address, so they can appear in our hosting provider’s request logs.
  • Like most websites, our hosting provider receives technical details with each request, such as your IP address, browser type and the page you asked for.

3. What is published

When a moderator publishes your review, anyone can see:

  • the company, job title and location (city, state and any location name);
  • your ratings, stress level, whether you would recommend the job and work there again, and your written answers; and
  • the year of your review.

Parts of published reviews, such as the “What I wish I knew” answer, can also appear on the homepage and on job pages.

The author is always shown as Anonymous Employee. Your name, email address and account are never shown publicly.

Extra protection for small workplaces

Whether you work there now or used to, how long you worked there, and the month of your review are shown only once that job at that location has at least 3 published reviews. Until then they are withheld by the database itself, never sent to the website, and only the year is shown. The exact date and time a review was published is never shown.

Search engines

During the private beta, every Shiftlore page asks search engines not to list it. Once Shiftlore launches publicly, company and job pages can appear in search results, including the review excerpts shown on job pages. Individual review pages will keep asking search engines not to list them.

Anonymous is not the same as unrecognizable

People who know you may recognize you from what you write, especially at a small workplace. Leave out details that point to you, such as a unique shift or an event only you were part of.

4. Pay information

  • The exact amount you enter is never published with your review or linked to you publicly.
  • Your base pay is added to the pay figures for that job at that location, with hourly and yearly pay kept separate. A figure appears only once at least 3 people have reported that kind of pay for that job. Until then, Shiftlore shows only how many reports it has.
  • Pay figures show the typical (median) amount and the range from the lowest to the highest amount reported. That means one person’s exact amount can appear as the low or high end of a range, though it is never connected to a review or an account.
  • Tips, commission and pay satisfaction are stored and visible to moderators, but are not published anywhere on Shiftlore today.
  • Your 1 to 5 pay rating is a rating like the others and is published with your review.
  • Pay is never saved in your browser’s unfinished draft (see Cookies and browser storage).

5. Who can see what

You

My Reviews shows your reviews, their status and the email address you are signed in with. Only you can see it.

Moderators

Shiftlore’s moderation tool is open only to admin accounts. For each review it shows:

  • the full written answers, ratings, stress level and other answers;
  • the company, job and location;
  • whether you work there now and how long you worked there, even when those are withheld publicly;
  • your exact pay, tips, commission and pay satisfaction, if you shared them;
  • when it was submitted, updated and published, its status and moderation notes; and
  • reports about it (the reason and any details).

The moderation tool does not show your name, email address or account ID, or who made a report. The database does not let the website, including a moderator’s session, read which account wrote a review.

People who run the database

People with administrative access to Shiftlore’s database and hosting accounts, for example through Supabase’s dashboard, can technically see all stored information, including which account wrote which review.

When the law requires it

We may disclose information if we believe the law requires it, or to protect the safety or rights of people or Shiftlore.

6. Service providers and storage

Shiftlore uses outside services to run the site. They handle information on our behalf:

  • Supabase stores Shiftlore’s database (Postgres): accounts, reviews, pay, reports and moderation records. Supabase Auth also runs sign-in, including sign-in links, Google sign-in and sessions.
  • Namecheap Private Email delivers the sign-in emails that Supabase Auth sends, from a shiftlore.app address.
  • A hosting provider serves the website.
  • Google, only if you choose Continue with Google.

Shiftlore’s fonts are served from Shiftlore’s own site, so loading a page does not contact Google Fonts.

7. Cookies and browser storage

Sign-in cookies

  • When you sign in, Shiftlore’s sign-in software (from Supabase) keeps your session in cookies whose names start with sb-. They keep you signed in and let Shiftlore show your account pages.
  • They can last up to 400 days unless you sign out. The session inside them is renewed regularly.
  • Signing in can also set a temporary cookie that is used to complete sign-in securely.
  • Signing out removes these cookies from your browser.
  • These cookies are needed to sign in. Reading Shiftlore without signing in doesn’t need them.

Unfinished reviews

  • While you write a review, your answers are saved in this browser tab’s session storage so a reload doesn’t lose them. The draft stays on your device and is not sent to Shiftlore until you submit.
  • It includes the job details, ratings and written answers. It never includes your pay or the three confirmations.
  • It is cleared when you submit, when you choose Start over, and normally when you close the tab. When the form opens, drafts left in that tab by a different account are cleared.
  • Anyone using the same browser tab could see an unfinished draft, so close the tab on a shared device.

Nothing else

Shiftlore does not use advertising cookies, analytics tools or local storage.

8. How we use information

  • to sign you in and keep you signed in;
  • to publish reviews and calculate job-level ratings, counts and pay figures;
  • to moderate reviews and handle reports;
  • to prevent abuse, for example by limiting how often one account can submit;
  • to run, secure and fix Shiftlore; and
  • to meet legal obligations.

The only emails Shiftlore sends are sign-in links. We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t use it for advertising.

9. Editing and deleting

Editing a review

From My Reviews you can edit a review that is in review, published or not published. Editing sends it back to a moderator, and a published review is hidden until the change is approved. Reviews marked Needs review or Removed can’t be edited.

Deleting a review

You can delete any of your reviews from My Reviews. This permanently deletes the review, its ratings, its pay information, its moderation history and any reports about it from Shiftlore’s database. It disappears from Shiftlore’s pages and job-level figures, usually within minutes. Backups kept by our database provider may still contain it for a period, and copies Shiftlore doesn’t control, such as screenshots or a search engine’s saved copy, may remain.

Deleting your account

There is no button to delete your account yourself yet. To ask us to delete it, email support@shiftlore.app from the email address you use to sign in, so we can find the right account.

When an account is deleted, the database deletes with it: the account, all of its reviews (with their ratings, pay information and moderation history), reports about those reviews, and its submission records. Reports the account made about other reviews, and companies, job titles and locations it added, are kept but are no longer linked to any account.

10. How long we keep information

  • Account information: until the account is deleted.
  • Reviews: until you delete them or your account is deleted. This includes reviews that were not published or were removed. They stay in the database, hidden from the public, until deleted.
  • Moderation notes and reports: as long as the review they are about.
  • Submission records: entries older than two days are deleted the next time you submit or edit. Any left are deleted with the account.
  • Sign-in records kept by Supabase Auth and request logs kept by our hosting provider follow those providers’ own retention.

11. Security

  • Every table in Shiftlore’s database has row-level security. Visitors who aren’t signed in can read only published reviews (without their author), the public directory of companies, jobs and locations, and job-level figures.
  • Reviews can only be submitted through a database function that checks your answers and records the Terms version.
  • No system is completely secure, and we can’t guarantee that information will never be accessed without permission.

12. Age

You must be 18 or older to submit a review, and the review form asks you to confirm it. Shiftlore does not ask for or store your date of birth. Shiftlore is not designed for children.

13. Your privacy rights

You can see all of your reviews in My Reviews, edit most of them and delete any of them. Depending on where you live, you may have more rights, such as asking for a copy of your information or for it to be deleted.

To make a request like this, email support@shiftlore.app from the email address you use to sign in.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The date and version at the top of this page change when we do. The Terms of Service explain how changes apply.

15. Contact us

Email support@shiftlore.app for:

  • questions about this policy or how Shiftlore handles your information;
  • a copy of the information Shiftlore holds about you;
  • deleting your account; or
  • any other privacy or legal concern.

Please write from the email address you use to sign in, so we can match your request to your account. You don’t need to contact us to edit or delete a review: you can do that yourself in My Reviews.
